The heroes who dared to to tell the truth

This is to honor people for making important contributions to the understanding of the harmful effects of mobile phones and for making the hazards known to the general public.

Dr George Carlo

Dr Carlo is a great hero in this field. He was trusted by the mobile phone industry to be the most competent scientist to correctly assess the safety of mobile phones.

Although he received 28 million dollars in sponsorship for this work he had the integrity, courage and great sense of responsibility to communicate his conclusion that mobile phones are harmful.

In spite of strong opposition, threats, physical attacks, defamation attempts, harrassments and other difficulties he has persisted in warning about the hasards. This is one of his public statements:

"...with medical science indicating increased risks of tumors, cancer, genetic damage and other health problems from the use of cellphones, the government and the cellphone industry have abandoned the public."

He has opened the eyes of many people with his excellent book, which we warmly recommend: "Cell phones: Invisible hazards in the wireless age: An Insider's Alarming Discoveries about Cancer and Genetic Damage." We want to express our greatest appreciation and respect for Dr Carlo.

Professor Henry Lai

Conducted pioneering research proving that cellphone radiation damages DNA. Such damage is assoiated with increased Cancer risk. He persisted in doing the research in spite of doubts expressed by his peers. Recently other scientists have confirmed the correctness of his conclusions.

For details about his research, see:

Professor Lennart Hardell

Conducted several large epidemiological studies of high scientific quality, proving a considerable increase in brain tumor risk among cellphone users especially on the side where they used to hold the cellphone.

For a few examples of his research, see

Professor Leif G Salford

Discovered blood-brain-barrier disruption, a very important and problematic complication of cellphone usage. This vital protection barrier for the brain ceases to function within a couple of minutes of cellphone irradiation. There are reasons to suspect that this may bring about serious consequences as the same kind of leakage has been found a/o in Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.

Professor Olle Johansson

Professor Johansson, a neuroscientist at the famous Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, heads a research team that has documented a significant and permanent worsening of the public health that began when the second-generation, 1800 MHz cell phones were introduced into Sweden in late 1997.

After a decade-long decline, the number of Swedish workers on sick leave began to rise in late 1997 and more than doubled during the next five years. During the same period of time, sales of antidepressant drugs also doubled. The number of traffic accidents, after declining for years, began to climb again in 1997. The number of deaths from Alzheimer's disease, after declining for several years, rose sharply in 1999 and had nearly doubled by 2001.

In 2002 Örjan Hallberg and Olle Johansson coauthored a paper titled "Cancer Trends During the 20th Century," which examined one aspect of that question.

For the United States, Sweden and dozens of other countries, they found that mortality rates for skin melanoma and for bladder, prostate, colon, breast and lung cancers closely paralleled the degree of public exposure to radio waves during the past hundred years. When radio broadcasting increased in a given location, so did those forms of cancer; when it decreased, so did those forms of cancer.

A remarkable finding was that country by country - and county by county in Sweden - their statistical analysis found, that exposure to radio waves appears to be an as significant factor in causing lung cancer as cigarette smoking!

Suspicious attempts at obstructing the research of professor Johansson

In 2009, professor Johansson was told by the Karolinska Institute that his offices and lab were to be converted to "an animal house for ferrets." It is most remarkable that the institute finds it more important to house ferrets than to enable research of vital importance for mankind. This plan was dropped by the institute after protests from professor Johansson.

In the summer of 2010 the institute decided in stead to use his offices and labs for an imaging centre and notified professor Johansson immediately before he was to begin a set of tests on the hazards of mobile phones, a replication of Canadian research that indicated a significant effect of radiation intensities far below approved levels, see "Cordless phones and WIFI cause heart irregularities".

Dr. Magda Havas, the Canadian researcher whose work Johansson intended to replicate, has issued an impassioned public statement proclaiming the Karolinska Institute's action as an assault on academic enquiry. "Without academic freedom we are doomed to be corporate pawns," she claims. Havas, with Camilla Rees is co-author of Public Health SOS: The Shadow Side of the Wireless Revolution. She is Associate Professor of Environmental & Resource Studies at Trent University, teaching and conducting research on the biological effects of environmental contamination.

In a pointed response to Harriet Wallberg-Henriksson, president of the Karolinska Institute, Havas warned, "Sweden has had a reputation for caring about the environment and about human health and many of your guidelines are among the best in the world. It would be a shame if you allowed the work of Dr. Olle Johansson to be compromised by taking away his lab and office. He is among a handful of truly great scientists in Sweden doing this type of work and we cannot afford to lose him." Support for Johansson has spread across the North American continent and Europe.

A letter has been circulated all over the world demanding that the Karolinska Institute stops preventing professor Johanssons research. It states in part, "Please ensure that Dr. Johansson's independent work continues in his current lab and office. With over 4,000,000,000 (four billion) cell phone users globally, including children, his research could prevent cancer's silent growth in millions of people."

Among the signatories to the letter include Prof. Elihu D Richter MD MPH, of the Hebrew University-Hadassah in Jerusalem. In Ireland where the government is promoting the use of frequencies for manufacturers to test new technologies, Dr. Philip Michael, founder of the Irish Doctors Environmental Association, expressed dismay at Prof. Johansson's situation.
