The open letter signed as below is found at: http://www.psrast.org/psrlet.htm.
Although a majority (over 130) of the signatories have a background in bioscience including medicine, representatives of other scientific fields have also signed. The reason is that this is not just a technical matter of food safety assessment. It is a matter of principle of general societal importance. This is because a criterion without any scientific basis (Substantial Equivalence) has been applied as decicive factor in the approval of a new category foods, the safety of which is very incompletely known. This represents an unaccepable attempt to bypass sound science in a question of vital importance for public health at a global scale.
